Meet Quinn Surrett
How do you identify?
Tell us about yourself:
I moved to LA from Atlanta in 2012 for school, and I've been here ever since. I'm early on in a journey of understanding myself and getting comfortable in my own skin. My name, pronouns, and identity are all in flux, but I'm happier than ever :) Plus, my SO and I have an adorable new puppy (a Corgi-Jindo mix), and I've started teaching myself to play piano!
Fun fact(s) about you:
I co-founded one of the nation's first university kink/BDSM clubs in 2014.
Any advice for young queers out there or advice you would have given your younger self:
You can be anything and anyone you want. You can change whenever and whatever you want. Change your label, change your name, change your hair! Be in the moment and do what feels authentic to you, because that's the only person you have to answer to.
What is your favorite Pride / Queer memory?
Visiting SF Pride in 2017! We spent time with close friends, saw *lots* of drag performances, and danced every single day :)
What does this community mean to you?
The queer community gives me countless examples, every single day, of people at their most free, even in the face of those who want to deny that freedom. That @cooper.surrett means everything to me. It's invaluable.
Why did you want to be involved in this project?
I want to help set an example for queer kids who are figuring themselves out, and set an example for myself by taking risks and being more open about who I am.
